How to fix touchscreen phone with water damage?

I dropped my phone in the bath. I pulled out the battery. It was probably in there 15 seconds. The red thingy said it has water damage. About a half hour later I opended the keyboard and put the phone and battery in rice. Does this work? How long should I keep it in for? Thanks! Any other idea on what to do if this doesn't work??
